You didn't. I've been thinking about it for a while. So many things happen in New Dodge. Like the kidnapping. And invasions. And viruses.

[ And about 900 things Nick HASN'T been here for. ]

[Well his boyfriend certainly wouldn't be in the list of surprised people. Dating a speedster means sometimes he has to reach out and slow him back down to human speeds.

So you're talking about giving me powers, like you and Wanda have?

[ It's certainly something Savitar appreciates and loves. If Nick had been around in Central City, how much nonsense could've been avoided? Probably a lot. ]

It also gives Nick a lot to think about and he's not going to jump to any rash decisions.] Powers would be kind of cool even if I think I've done pretty good so far without them.

[And Nick stops off to collect all of their favorite foods as well as whatever they might need to make more later.

Is he stalling? Maybe. But the offer of superpowers to a kid who grew up wishing for the basics like hearing or a voice isn't one that he can immediately discount.

So Nick takes it one step at a time.
Practical.
It's kept him alive in New Dodge so far.

But there's still a warm smile and kiss for Savitar as he gets home and starts unpacking things.]

[ And Savitar will even help without using speed to get everything put away faster. He knows when there's a time to do things fast and a time to think on things while you're doing chores. ]

[The comment is met with a fond smile and a nudge.] Seemed appropriate since we're going to talk about some pretty heavy subjects.

So what can you tell me about this? What does it mean to give someone powers like you do? [Nothing accusatory of course, Savitar only offers because he cares and Nick knows and loves that about him. But he wants to understand.]

[ He gets it. And he's glad Nick is letting him explain. ]

I have a piece of calcified speed force, some people call it the Philosopher's Stone. It can be used to flood someone's body with dark matter, putting them in a sort of stasis-state for a few days. During that time, their genetics are recombined to give them the ability that's been chosen for them. Or by them.

So it's a part of what makes you and the other Barrys fast?

.. that's what you used to save Snart's life wasn't it?

It is, yes. And yeah, that's how I did it. Him and a few others in town. Michael Wheeler, for example.


[ He does pause, though. ] Full disclosure: before you arrived, there was a storm that sort of activated it and a number of people ended up with powers they weren't expecting to get.

[A thoughtful nod as Nick considers that.] So how would this work, really? If I decide to go through with it?

I'll talk to Wanda too before we do this.

I'd have to retrieve the stone from where I've stored it. Then you'd have to decide what sort of ability you would want.

[ And Savitar's turn to nod. ] Of course.

Wait, you mean I can choose what ability?

[A fond smile as he darts in to kiss his cheek.]

That's like the dream of any kid who's ever read a comic book. I wouldn't know where to start.

You can. I can give you a list? Probably one pared down, because lord how many powers could there even be? A lot.

That's probably a good idea.

But for now Nick is okay with thinking about the idea as they settle in for a bite to eat. Powers. There are so many things to choose from he doesn't even know where to begin.
