[ An hour, and The Nogitsune will show up for this cooking lesson. A notebook with him. For the recipes. Mick gets a weird and awkward wave from the creature in the body of a young man as he enters the casino. ]

[Mick's in the kitchen at the casino pulling out ingredients and checking over a stack of recipe cards.]

Hey. Grab an apron and we'll get started.

Yes. Hey.

[ An apron, he shall grab. And then he'll make his way over to where Mick is, a tad unblinkingly. ]

[Mick's used to random people and their uniqueness so the lack of blinking doesn't pull any notice.]

Okay, so I got a few simple things here you can take with you that you can fix yourself, and I'm gonna show ya how to make a few things tonight. How much do ya know about cooking? Got the basics down alright?

[ He nods, once. ] I can make burgers, chicken and pizza. Spicy noodles for Malina and the twins.

[ So a little more than the basics. ]

[beer_and_fire]

“Awesome. Alright. So then we can just make a few things so you can try em and then I’ll just give you the recipe cards so you can make em yourself if ya like em.” He says cause knowing how to cook makes it easier to teach additional skills.

[callitvoid]

"That's fine." A nod, and then a thought apparently pops into his head: "Will children like these things?"

[beer_and_fire]

“Most of em Yeah. Don’t see why not.” Mick says showing him the cards. Lots of leafy greens and meats. Some pasta. A few berries and legumes.

[callitvoid]

He looks over the cards, nodding. His expression is, perhaps, a bit strange. Somewhere between bemused and 'no expression at all'. Less like he's trying to be rude and more like he still doesn't do expressions well.

Well, at least it makes it easier to tell when Stiles is in charge, right?

"They're picky. But I think this will help."

[beer_and_fire]

“You can always mix most of it up and then add the things they don’t like to your own. It’s all very versatile.” Mick says pulling out some kale to teach him how to clean it the easiest and best way.

[callitvoid]

"That will also be helpful." He watches this cleaning explanation with interest, apparently as fascinated with this as he was with the cards.

[beer_and_fire]

"Here, you finish up the rest of it so you can get a feel for cleaning it." Mick says standing aside to let the other man have a chance for hands on experience. Cooking is a tactile skill, you have to do it to get better at it.

[callitvoid]

"All right." He'll take what is offered and work on cleaning it. Adjusting what he's doing when he can see he's not doing it quite correctly.

[beer_and_fire]

"Good job. Just remember if ya don't clean it enough it's gonna be gritty and dirty, so it's good to be thorough. You should clean spinach and other leafy greens the same way. Soak em a little then treat em all individual like. If the stems are small and delicate like this." He stops and holds up a leaf. "You can leave em alone and intact. But if they look like this." He holds up one with a very thick central vein. "You'll wanna strip the leaves from either side otherwise it's gonna be really bitter and tough to eat once cooked."

"And people don't want that." Congratulations, Thomas, you cracked the code. "All right. I understand." He finishes up with the cleaning, trying to follow exactly as Mick has told him.

[beer_and_fire]

“Looks Good Thomas.” He says as he pulls out a huge pot. “Put all the clean pieces in here and add five cups of water. I know it doesn’t look like enough but it is. The greens will wilt and cook down. Once they’ve gotten tender we can build the rest of the soup.”

[callitvoid]

Thomas layers in the greens, then adds the water. "How long does it usually take for them to get tender?" Things he needs to know, no doubt.

[beer_and_fire]

“An hour or so if your cooking them as a bunch to eat plain. You’ll wanna rinse em and change the water then add a hunk of salted pork. For this recipe we’re gonna let em come to a boil then add in three types of beans and some precooked meatballs. It’s a good quick cooking soup that has lots of iron in it. It also freezes well so you
Can make a giant pot and set some aside for later meals.”

"Then that will be good for the kids. And keep Stiles off my back." Stiles will never be off your back, nogitsune. Don't be ridiculous.

[beer_and_fire]

Once everything is added Mick spoons up a bowl and passes it to the Nogitsune. "Have a taste and see what ya think."

[callitvoid]

He takes a taste, and wow. That is an actual brief smile on the nogitsune's face. Interesting! "Much better than the burgers they make me eat."

[beer_and_fire]

“Glad ya like it. And it’s pretty versatile for a recipe. You can add or take away most things depending on what ya have in the house or who your feeding.”

[callitvoid]

"Yes, I can see how that would be helpful." Maybe he can even make enough for Stiles and then Stiles will stop complaining about his dietary habits. Ha ha. Well, a fox spirit can dream anyway.

“Wanna try a couple more or ya feeling pretty good to try on your own at home?” Mick asks as he cleans up their work area.

Thomas considers. "I think I can manage at home. If I have questions, can I contact you?"
