[ Ronan threw the TC as far as he could and then started walking nowhere. The idea of someone touching his fathers car who wasn't Adam or Gansey or himself pissed him off. The idea that his car was going to be solar powered pissed him off. He loved the smell of the engine, the gasoline, the speed. What the fuck was he going to do with a solar powered BMW? HIS FATHERS CAR!
Five minutes later.... ]
Parrish would find me fucking hilarious right now.
[For a moment, Gansey thinks that Chainsaw has decided to answer the text instead of Ronan.
As he waited, dread curled in his stomach. Perhaps now that reality was setting in, Ronan wouldn't be as agreeable to the idea as they had both assumed.]
[Ronan had made a mistake in the past, but he trusted him with the Camaro now. He wouldn't break Gansey's trust intentionally after nearly destroying himself to replace the Pig.]
The mechanic said you'll be able to race afterward. There won't be any change in performance so you'll be embarrassing me as soon as it's finished and we find somewhere to race.
[Gansey is a better driver than Ronan thinks, but he has no illusions regarding trying to beat someone with as much experience as his best friend.]
Will it be easier to accept if I'm helping the mechanic with the work? I'll make sure she doesn't do anything to it.
[ Gansey. Working on the BMW. Working on a car? Protecting it isn't the same as actually working on it. His sarcastic brain wonders if Gansey realizes the difference. ]
She said it might sound slightly different, but she didn't act like there would be any significant differences other than that.
She specializes in German cars so knows what she's doing.
[He really should have anticipated that reaction. He does anticipate how Ronan will react if he knows about the deal he set up for the work. It might not be as explosive as Adam's reaction would be, but it won't be pleasant.]
I'm not completely hopeless. Adam taught me how to change spark plugs and belts. I'm sure that I can learn whatever skills are necessary around the shop.
[ Ronan would be perfectly happy to end a conversation done entirely through the TC. He hates the TC, phones in general, and any form of communication that isn't face to face. ]
[This conversation isn't going to be pleasant so he calls Ronan, hoping that a conversation that didn't rely on texting would be slightly less hostile. He braces the TC against his shoulder as he gets into the Pig.]
As I said before, it's taken care of. The work will be done soon and the BMW will be on the road again.
[The cursing could be considered beautiful, inventive and lyrical, if it didn't mean that Ronan was furious. Hopefully, Ronan won't react to the deal the way Adam would.]
Nothing that we can't afford. If I help out around the shop, Mercy will start the work right away.
If you help- [ Ronan takes a deep breath and holds it or else fire will explode from his nostrils like a dragon. The image is amusing, enough that he holds onto it for a moment. And then exhales sharply. No flames. ] You didn't have to agree to work two jobs.
[The explosion isn't quite as destructive as Gansey had anticipated. Leaning back against sun warmed vinyl, he lets out a sigh.]
If I help around the shop, the work will be done faster. [Perhaps not if Gansey's helping since his mechanical experience is limited to the Pig's mysterious workings.] We'll be able to pay off the debt more quickly.
[Closing his eyes, he begins to rub the bridge of hsi nose, then stops when he almost knocks his glasses askew.]
You can't help with the BMW, but I can. I'm the logical choice for working there.
[When there's no further cursing, Gansey risks starting the Pig, shifting the TC to speaker before heading for the stables.]
I never thought you would. [He pauses a beat, wondering if the exertion of two jobs will counteract his insomnia.] It's never too late if you never sleep.
[ If there was a way to choose how he dies it would be death by Gansey and Adam. If only Gansey knew how sweet his torment could be. How achingly sweet and wanted. ]
Parrish is probably bent over an engine right now, getting his hands greasy and smudging his face.
[ When Ronan thought of Adam he saw eyelashes and eyes with too much calculating and not enough freedom staring back at him. ]
[For a moment, Gansey is at a loss for words, grateful that the sound of the engine will cover the lapse. He knew Ronan's preferences, but not that he preferred a certain person.
A strange twist of jealousy catches in his chest, but he's not sure who he feels jealous of and why it's accompanied by painful disappointment.]
He probably is. Even if he's not at work, he's probably trying to repair the Hondayota.
[ Ronan is imagining Gansey bent over an engine, probably still wearing his usual comfortable Gansey clothes, and accidentally smudging his face right next to his intensely happy smile. ]
You'd better buy yourself some jeans and t-shirts if you're going to go for the mechanic look.
[He winces as he says the more favored name for Adam's car. It seems ungrateful when Helen had been clever enough to figure out a way around Adam's pride. The car is awful, but it's Adam's and it's important to him.]
Wait... you haven't seen it yet. When we were in D.C., Helen gave Adam a car of questionable manufacture.
I'll go shopping tomorrow and buy something more work appropriate.

Here it needs to be converted to solar power or it will have to be parked. We can't afford gas for it if you're going to drive it every day.
[After a few minutes, Gansey texts again.]
Am I the only one who imagined Adam's reaction to that text if he read it?

Re: Text
[ But he needs to cool his head and that always take longer than it does for his temper to ignite in the first place. ]
It's all I have left of him.

You can have the Pig until we go home.

I'll pick you up and we can get the BMW.

What the fuck do you mean it's taken care of?

Don't expect me to rub your feet when you get home too late to shower.
[ There is no heat, just frustrated teasing because he's still not happy, but he can't take it out on Gansey. ]

You and Parrish will be the death of me, I swear.

[He ignores how much he misses Adam, knowing it's selfish to wish he was in New Dodge with them.]
For now, you won't have to worry about us being your cause of death. You only have me to torment you.
